I was absolutely BLOWN AWAY by the mantle arrangements and wreaths in each room. I genuinely wish I had a home of my own or worked in an office in which I could have something that beautiful to look at everyday. Dear Kate, Thank you and Pam and Shelagh for not only the simply beautiful and beautifully simple (that is, natural and authentic) Christmas decorations you created and installed in this house for the Historic Fredericksburg candlelight tour, but especially for your gracious acceptance of my (channeling the Carter Littlepage Stevenons’ 
early 19th century biases, not to slight my procrastination in organizing the house for tourists…
I hope you enjoyed the experience as well as the tour itself and cocktail party on Saturday evening. So far all of the tourists’ comments that I have heard or seen have been very complimentary. (I was sorry that day-long rain on Sunday–the same as last year–cut the numbers and probably hurt HFFI’s bottom line. On Saturday, some 900 walked through the house, on Sunday, fewer than 160.)

Funny one for you that I thought you would enjoy. I wish you could have seen Noah’s face when he walked into the family room. He was talking, stopped in his tracks and covered his wide open mouth. Thanksgiving was such a success in our redesigned home. Everyone exclaimed how wonderful everything looked. We were able to all sit comfortably in the dining room even after I put another leaf in the table. We were all able to sit in the family room for conversation; I brought in the two rope chairs from the piano room and set them in the corners for additional seating. The whole family has been enjoying the upstairs sitting room, so much so that the children insisted I put a Christmas tree in there. Sally Haskovec

You are probably used to receiving thank you notes right after you finish a redesign on a home. That’s when the wonder and amazement caused by the change is the greatest. I thought you might enjoy hearing from someone a year after their redesign.
We continue to love the changes you have made in our home. The paint colors are fabulous and even my color-phobic husband loves them. We like them so much that our neutral beige bedroom seems unfinished now!
The wisdom of your design selections continues to amaze us. We have tried to “improve” on what you’ve done only to realize that you gave us a complete package — no improvements necessary. It’s even more fun when we discover something new about the design. Yes, it’s true! Even a year later we continue to see new things in your design. That has got to be the mark of a good design.
You might wonder whether or not we’ve made a lot of changes. Honestly — no. We’ve changed out the TV so that it didn’t crowd the corner anymore. We’ve bought new furniture for the sunroom so that we are more comfortable while we are enjoying the space. That’s about it.
When we set up our Christmas trees this year we had to move some furniture around and remove some of the decorative items. We immediately missed seeing things in their familiar homes. While we are normally sad to take down our Christmas decorations, this year we were eager to return our rooms to their redesigned splendor.
Even a year later we love our redesigned rooms. Thanks for everything you have done for us. We thoroughly enjoyed working with you.

All we can say is “WOW”! When we started the re-design process with you, we knew we were in for a big surprise, but we had no idea how big. The rooms you re-designed turned out to be of the same caliber shown on all the popular HGTV shows. We were truly impressed and now we know how all those people feel when they get excited about their rooms. We say that, because we found ourselves jumping up and down with pure excitement and disbelief.
Our excitement started in the foyer. You did a fantastic job pulling together all of our odds and ends collected from around the world and sitting them on the empty shelf. Not only is the space nice, but brings back fond memories every time we walk downstairs or out the front door. On top of that, you transformed the foyer area by simply dragging a nice piece of furniture from a hidden wall and making it a focal point once you enter into the house. We were hesitant to move the secretariat, but now we are wondering why we didn’t think about it. It is so nice in the foyer. All the things you moved from room to room turned out perfect and in the long run saved us money.
As for our living room, we sat in it for the first time this weekend and had coffee with a friend. We haven’t sat in the room since we moved in the house in Aug 03. The “new” room is a true testament of your ability to take a “disrupted space” and add organization, comfort and elegance. The room looks fantastic and makes us want to use it on a daily basis. BTW…tell Mark thanks for building the cornices. They are very nice!
The dining room is a showpiece. You tied it into the living room nicely and now we can’t wait to have our family over for Thanksgiving. The two spaces are simple, but elegant. You nailed the design and color schemes we were looking for within the rooms. It took us four years to find someone who could help us pull the rooms together and we are glad it was you. As a friend and a professional, you went above and beyond.
Speaking of above and beyond…the family room is off the charts! When we saw it, Anne was jumping up and down in the middle of the floor screaming “I got my mantle, I got my mantle…” It was a great birthday surprise. We couldn’t believe how nice the mantle turned out. After five contractors told us no, you and Mark got it done. We are glad you were the one who put the mantle on the fireplace. We truly believe your designing ability resulted in a mantle perfect for us and our house. We could have never described what we wanted to a contractor. You knew what we wanted and nailed it. Again, thanks for making it a wonderful focal point and surprise for Anne.
Once we settled down over the surprise mantle and took in the entire room, we were impressed how you took a room we really liked and made it a room we really love. I can remember saying, “I don’t see how you are going to move the furniture around”. You replied, “I have an idea”. Your idea was fantastic. The room looks bigger and creates a great flow from the kitchen. We still can’t imagine doing some of the things you pulled off. The family room is by far our favorite room within the house and we still can’t believe how nice it turned out.
We have always loved our house, but now it truly is a place of comfort and refuge from the craziness that is our lives. We love our house even more. We walk through it everyday and can’t believe it is our house. It looks like a model home! It’s amazing that you did in just 2 short weeks what 3 other designers in 4 years could not do. Just saying “thank you” seems inadequate to express our feelings for what you and Mark have done for us – we will always be grateful to you.
So, when can we get you back to finish the rest of the house? You have spoiled us and now we want your help all over the house. Your work is awesome Kate and we thank you! Keith and Anne McCormack
